The Power of Expectation
The Power of Expectation: Unlocking Our Dreams
I've often thought that our dreams are limited by what we see, but I've come to realize that they're also constrained by what we expect. While exposure shapes our expectations, sometimes our expectations dictate what we see.
In my life, low expectations have stifled my dreams and relegated me to survival mode. Anxiety stems from anticipating the worst. In relationships, I've longed for love but never truly expected it. I've desired marriage, family, and more, yet expected the opposite.
The Bible offers hope: "God gives us an expected end" (Jeremiah 29:11). He grants "the desires of our hearts" (Psalm 37:4), but often our desires and expectations diverge.
Jesus' question to the blind men, "What do you want Me to do for you?" (Mark 10:51), can be rephrased as, "What do you expect from Me?"
Scripture instructs us to pray with faith, believing we've received what we've asked for (Mark 11:24). Before dreaming and asking, we must examine our expectations.
What are we expecting from God?
What would He give us if our expectations aligned with His plans?
Let's break free from the constraints of past experiences, societal opinions, and struggles. Our dreams thrive when we expect them to come to pass.
There's a profound link between expectation and faith. We can desire something without expecting it to happen, but faith bridges that gap.
As we recalibrate our expectations, let's:
1. Identify and challenge negative expectations.
2. Align our expectations with God's promises.
3. Pray with faith, trusting God's goodness.
4. Dream boldly, expecting His blessings.
By reframing our expectations, we unlock the potential for our dreams to flourish.
